Richard “Dick” Dale Lev, the son of William and Grace (Johnson) Lev was born on Saturday, January 4, 1931 in Lakefield, Minnesota. As a child Richard attended school in Lakefield, graduating in 1949. Growing up he helped his father on the farm. After graduation Richard enlisted in the United States Army. Richard met the love of his life Donna Nissen during a “Chinese Fire Drill” while out with friends. They were united in marriage on June 10, 1952 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. Shortly after marriage they moved to New Jersey, where Dick was stationed until being called overseas to serve his country. Richard served in the Korean War while being stationed in Japan. Upon Richard’s return from the Army, he and Donna moved to their farm in Minneota Township, where together they farmed and started their family. They were blessed with 3 children. In 1996, Dick and Donna retired from farming and moved to Jackson. Richard served as a bailiff at the Jackson County Courthouse for 10 years. In November of 2016, Dick and Donna moved to Valley View Assisted Living in Lakefield. Dick remained in Valley View after Donna’s passing in January of 2019. Late spring Richard’s health started to decline so he moved into the Colonial Manor Nursing Home, where he passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 23 days.
Richard was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hunter Township. He was a member of the Sioux Valley Legion and the Jackson VFW, where he served as commander. Richard enjoyed bowling, reading western books, and listening to music, especially Johnny Cash. He and Donna spent many nights out on the dance floors of the Sioux Valley Log Cabin, Fox Lake, and the Hi-Lo Club. Richard also enjoyed playing a friendly game of 500 or Poker. A visit from his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren always put a smile on his face.
Richard is survived by his son Kevin (Heidi) Lev of Lakefield and daughters Debra (Steven) Benes of Jackson and Lori (Mark) Leighty of Minneota Township, three sisters Evonne Place of Lakefield, Patricia Svobda of Lakefield and Diane Palmer of Lakefield: eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
