Pearl Dorothy Wedebrand

Wedebrand, PearlPearl Dorothy Wedebrand, 84, passed away on January 20, 2011 at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls. Services for Pearl will be held on Tuesday January 25, 2011 at 11 A.M. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson with Pastor Lance Issacson officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, January 24, 2011 from 4pm until 7pm at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Jackson and then Tuesday at 10 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be at Sunset Cemetery in Jackson.

Pearl Dorothy (Frick) Wedebrand was born to John and Christina (Fried) Frick on January 19, 1927 in Brewster, Minnesota. Pearl had one sister, Ruby.

 Pearl’s growing up years were spent in Brewster; Melvin, Iowa; and Jackson, Minnesota. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1944. After graduation she traveled with her lifelong friend LaDonna (Pinz) Schumaker to Davis, California where she worked for the state of California as a file clerk. Returning to Jackson she married Boral Wedebrand on March 30, 1948 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. They had three children, Linda, Colleen, and Duane.

 Pearl loved farm life and she worked beside Boral caring for livestock, doing field work, and raising a family. She was active as a Middletown Livewires Adult 4-H Leader holding many baking and table setting meetings. Along with Boral they ran the 4-H food stand for the Jackson fair for many years. After their children had grown, she worked in the kitchen at Best Western. She enjoyed catering for many events in the Jackson Area.

 Pearl was known as the person for helping out. She was involved in many church activities such as circle, president of the Woman’s Club and coordinating the kitchen for multiple events. She volunteered for events at the Good Samaritan Home. Pearl was a member of the KYN (Know Your Neighbor) Club, which started in 1958; Get Together Club, which started in 1948; and the Pork Producers Porkettes.

 Pearl and Boral lived on the farm south of Jackson until 2002 when they moved to town. Pearl’s enjoyment of farm life could still be evidenced by the many hours she continued to spend mowing lawn and maintaining her gardens on the farm. One of her other great enjoyments was spending time with her great grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Pearl was known for her decorations for all holidays and cooking for large family gatherings.

 Pearl passed away from a massive stroke at Sanford Medical Center, Sioux Falls on January 20, 2011. She spent the previous day celebrating her 84th birthday with friends.

 She is survived by her three children: Linda (Larry) Jessen of San Jose, California, Colleen (Dean) Shull of Shoreview, Minnesota, and Duane (Karen) Wedebrand of Jackson, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

 Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ruby Wendlandt, and husband Boral.
