Junior A. Handevidt


Handevidt, Jr JUNIOR A. HANDEVIDT, 87, of Jackson, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at the Jackson Good Samaritan.  Memorial Service will be on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson at 11:00 AM with Pastor Christopher Drew officiating.  Inurnment will be at a later date.

 Visitation will be on Friday, January 7, 2011 from 5-7 PM at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Jackson, and also one hour prior to the service at the Church.

JUNIOR ANDREW HANDEVIDT, was born on March 11, 1923, in Enterprise Township, Jackson County, Minnesota, the son of Andrew and Augusta (Grunst) Handevidt.  He attended school in District 87, Enterprise Township, and Jackson High School until the 9th grade.  He was united in marriage to Anna Mae Hayes on September 9, 1950, at the Methodist Church in Akeley, Minnesota.  They lived in Enterprise Township where he farmed until 1970, when they moved into the city of Jackson in 1971.  He then continued to work at Ag-Chem Equipment Company in Jackson.  He worked there for 30 years before retiring in 1994.  Junior became a resident at the Jackson Good Samaritan Center on August 6, 2007.  He passed away there on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the age of 87 years, 8 months, and 3 days.

Junior was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson where he did a lot of volunteer work.  He was ordained as an Elder in 1969 and served several terms on Session.   He was also ordained a Deacon in 1995.  He was a volunteer at Fort Belmont helping with the re-location and restoration.  He worked on the Pioneer Village at the Fairgrounds in Jackson.  He enjoyed listening to Old Time music, making things and saving just about anything.  He was also known as “Mr. Fix-it.”  He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and uncle.

Junior is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Handevidt of Jackson, Minnesota, a son, Michael Handevidt of Jackson, Minnesota, two daughters, Gayle A. (Monte) More of Jackson, Minnesota, Julie A. (Mike) Mollner of Wyoming, Minnesota, five grandchildren, Addie Handevidt of Bloomington, Minnesota, Katelin Handevidt of Jackson, Minnesota, Andrew Handevidt of Jackson, Minnesota, Mark (Sara) More of Estherville, Iowa, Mike (Charity) More of Jackson, Minnesota, five great-grandchildren, Madison, Logan, Sydney, Molly, and Hannah More, two sisters, Luetta Seim of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Marjorie Mowery of Fairmont, Minnesota, a brother Harlo (Mavis) Handevidt of Jackson, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews.

Junior is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Loretta Knudson.

    So sorry for your loss. So many memories of Junior and Anna Mae when I was a little girl. Sitting on the end of the pew in church when Junior was an usher, he’d always wave at me and smile then try to encourage me to turn around. Don’t recall a time I saw him without a smile.

    Sorry to hear of Junior’s passing. I remember the good times Marvin and I had with Junior and Anna Mae in Jackson so many years ago. We lost Marvin to Alzheimers December 24, 2004 , so know how hard it is to lose family at the holidays.
