Winona A. Droll

DrollWINONA A.  DROLL, 90, of Lakefield passed away on Saturday, November 13. 2010 at the Colonial Manor in Lakefield.  Funeral service will be on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the St Paul Lutheran Church in Rost Township, Jackson County with Pastor Steve Weiss officiating.  Burial will be in the St Paul Lutheran Cemetery – Rost Township.  Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at the Osterberg-Hansen Funeral Home in Lakefield and on Thursday – one hour prior to the service at the Church.

Winona Agnes (Wiese) Droll was born on August 27th, 1920 in Marshall County at Warren, Minnesota to Carl & Agnes (Puck) Wiese.  Her mother passed away when she was three weeks old, thereafter she lived with her Uncle and Aunt, Juluis and Emma (Puck) Wiese of Round Lake.  Winona frequently visited her father at Humbolt, Minnesota.  She was baptized August 11th, 1935 in the Lutheran Faith at Mavie, Minnesota by Rev. E.W. Baumann and also confirmed May 31st, 1936 at Sioux Valley Lutheran Church by Rev. Arnold A. Schultz.  She graduated from Sioux Valley High School in May of 1938.  She was married to Edward Leo Droll on September 10th, 1941 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux Valley Township.  They farmed in West Heron Lake Township Jackson County until Ed’s retirement.  Ed passed away on October 1, 1977.  She continued to live on the farm until 1996 when she moved to Homestead Cooperative in Worthington.  In September 2009 she became a resident of Colonial Manor in Lakefield.  She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rost Township where she was a member of the LWML and past Sunday School teacher.  Other organizations she enjoyed were the West Heron Lake Home Extension Group and the River Bend Quilters Society.  She was a loving, Christian Mother and Grandmother and enjoyed her family & friends as well as many hobbies, especially flower gardening, sewing, quilting, playing scrabble, travel tours and researching family history.  A highlight in 1978 was a visit to Stakendorf, Germany, the birthplace of her father.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Sheryl Glaser (Bradley) of Lakefield, daughters, Arlys Post (David) of Okabena, Beverly Jansen (Wayne) of Turtle Lake, Wisconsin.  Also, surviving are eight grandchildren & twenty one great-grandchildren, Denise (Dan) Iverson, Thomas & Courtney; Steven (Shari) Droll, Cody, Kayla, Clayton & Kassidy; Brent (Cheryl) Droll, Austin, Kaylynn, & Joshua; Troy (Gwen) Post, Erika & Jacob; Eric (Barbara) Post, Alyssa, Nathaniel, & Taylor; Heidi (David) Clausen, Dylan & Hailey; Kevin (Wendy) Jansen, Colton, Victoria, Emma, & Ella; Ava (Dale) LeBlanc & Remi; sister-in-law Beatrice Bahr of Hallock, Minnesota and many nieces and nephews.

Winona was preceded in death by her husband Edward, son Dennis, her parents Carl & Agnes, stepmother Alvina, foster parents, Juluis & Emma, brothers, Ernest, Arnold (Violet), Alvin (Virginia) Wiese & stepbrother Earl Bahr, foster sister Alva (Lou) Hamann, and foster brothers, Gilbert (Alva) and Wilbert (Gladys) Wiese.
