LaVon D. Yarns


LAVON D. YARNS, 84, of Jackson passed away at the Sanford Hospital in Jackson on Thursday, July 15, 2010.  The funeral service will take place at the United Methodist Church on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor David Brown officiating.  Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Jackson immediately following the service.

 The visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Jackson and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

LAVON DARLENE YARNS was born on August 17, 1925, on a farm near Terril, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Amelia (Hanke) Lenox.  She graduated from Estherville High School in 1942.  On March 26, 1945, she was united in marriage to Keith Yarns on his family farm in Middletown Township. After marriage, they made their home and farmed in Middletown Township until 1976, when they moved into Jackson.  During her working career, LaVon worked for the Minnesota Egg Corporation, the Red Owl Store, and the Chozen Department Store all in Jackson.  She worked many years as a housekeeper at the Good Samaritan of Jackson, where she continued to do volunteer work after retirement.  After Keith passed away on January 14, 2005, she continued to make her home in Jackson.  LaVon passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2010, at the Sanford Hospital in Jackson, at the age of 84 years, 10 months, and 28 days.

LaVon was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jackson, where she was a member of the prayer circle.  She was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries in Jackson.  She delivered Meals on Wheels and was a volunteer for the Reading Buddies Program at the library.  LaVon enjoyed taking care of her vegetable and flower gardens.  She loved to watch song birds from her kitchen window while sipping hot tea.

LaVon is survived by a son, Donald Yarns of Jackson, and a daughter, Sue Bute and special friend, Doug Novotny of Hector, Minnesota, six grandchildren, Mindy Yarns-Goyne, Kari (Yarns) Hawkinson, Steven Yarns, Matt Jandera, Megan Bute and David Bute, eight great-grandchildren, Alyssa Michelson, Tressa Dorman-Downing, Torrey Yarns, Christian Goyne-Yarns, Savannah Goyne, Rebecca Goyne, Jasmine Nelson, and Brandi Smith, a sister, Ardelle Coleman of Estherville, Iowa, three sister-in-laws, Bernice Lenox of Gaylord, Minnesota, Lois Lenox of Estherville, Iowa and Hazel Swanson of Portland, Oregon, a life long friend, Juanita Wachal of Jackson, and many nieces and nephews.

LaVon was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Keith, a sister, Lorraine Domino, two brothers, Calvin Lenox and Harold Lenox.
