EMMA W. NIELSEN, 94, of Jackson passed away at the Jackson Good Samaritan Center on Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Funeral service will be on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Osterberg Funeral Chapel in Jackson with Pastor John Schuetz officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Petersburg.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 to 7 PM and on Friday – one hour prior to the service all at the Osterberg Funeral Home.
EMMA WILHELMINA NIELSEN was born on April 7, 1916 in Bloomfield, Nebraska, the daughter of Ernst and Katherine (Stampe) Boll. She had attended country school near Bloomfield. On December 19, 1935, she was united in marriage to Max Nielsen in Lincoln, Nebraska. After marriage, they lived in several places in Nebraska. Then on March 1, 1949, they moved to Petersburg, Minnesota. Emma worked at Sperry Univac for 10 years. They also had lived in Trimont and Alpha. Max passed away on January 24, 1990. She continued to make her home in Alpha until she became a resident of the Jackson Good Samaritan Center on June 15, 2005. She passed away there on June 29, 2010 at the age of 94 years, 2 months and 22 days.
Emma had been baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Nebraska and had become a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jackson. She loved gardening, raising flowers and working in her yard. In her heart, she was always a farm girl.
Emma is survived by her daughter, Linda York of Alpha, 2 sons, Kenneth (Lorna) Nielsen of Jackson and Dale (Marian) Nielsen of Sherburn, 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and a sister, Alvina Jannssen of Richmond, Missouri.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 brothers, William and Fredrick Boll and 3 sisters, Bertha Miller, Ida Carstens, and Louise Roberts and her son-in-law, Robert York.
