Walter Leonard Husen, the son of Hugo and Mary (Schoening) Husen, was born on January 28, 1916 in Sioux Valley Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. As a youth Walter attended Jackson County Country Schools, graduating from Sioux Valley High School in 1933. After school Walter worked on the family farm until 1947. After working on the farm Walter moved to Sioux City where he worked for Armour Food Processing. After a few years in Sioux City, Armour moved Walter to South St. Paul, and later transferred him to the Worthington plant. Walter retired from Armour in 1981 after 34 years of dedicated service. After retirement Walter continued to make his home in Lakefield. Walter eventually moved to Doman Rose in Lakefield, and then on to the Jackson Good Samaritan Center, where he passed away on Sunday June 6, 2010 at the age of ninety-four years, four months, and nine days.
Walter was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lakefield. He loved farming in his younger years, and enjoyed taking bus tours throughout the United States. Later in life Walter still loved hearing about the crops. Whenever his family would visit he would quiz them on the area farms, always wanting to know how the crops were looking, and just making sure the farmers were having a good year. Walter valued friendships, trust, and his church. Walter would say: “I love the land and have always enjoyed life no matter where I lived.”
Walter is survived by his brother, Harold (Helen) Husen of Osseo, MN, a nephew, Paavo (Julia) Husen of North Aurora, Il, a niece, Maria (Anthony) Perez of Galt, CA; great-nephews, Dimitry Husen and Aleksander Husen and a great-niece, Aina Perez. Also surviving are Walter’s step-nephews, David (Kathy) Roslansky, Worthington, MN and Daniel (Connie) Roslansky, Burnsville, MN; and step-nieces, Kathryn (Gordon) Hermanson, Minocqua, WI and Suzanne (Bert) Hilmer, St Louis, MO.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents.
Blessed be the memory of Walter Leonard Husen.
