Betty Lorraine Wiese, the daughter of Victor and Florence (Odean) Johnson, was born on October 1, 1924 in Silver Creek Township, Wright County, Minnesota. As a youth Betty attended Wright County Country School. Betty worked for the Monticello Hospital as a dietary supervisor. On March 9, 1953 she was united in marriage to Fred Wiese in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. After her retirement Betty and Fred moved down to Heron Lake, Minnesota. After Fred’s passing in 1999, Betty continued to make her home in Heron Lake. Betty became a resident of the Sogge Good Samaritan Home in Windom in July of 2009, where she passed away on Thursday May 27, 2010 at the age of eighty-five years, seven months and twenty-six days.
Betty was known as a regal lady. She had a knack for giving people what they needed, when they needed it, whether they knew they needed it or not. She loved nature. Collecting wildflowers, watching birds, and she always wanted to go for a car ride after a rain, to see and smell everything refreshed. While on these car rides, or any other time she was with family, she was known for looking over at you with a smile and saying, “Isn’t this fun?” or “We had a fun day!” She was a kind and caring person, who was also known for her charm, and was very organized. Betty loved to read. As she got older and traveling became more and more difficult, she could still read, and let her imagination do the traveling for her.
Betty is survived by her three children, a son Dwight (Robin) Meintsma of Kinbrae; and her two daughters, Kim (Chris) Arens of Dundee, and Sherry (Tom) Hill of Blossom, Texas; her five grandchildren, Heather Meintsma, Tye Meintsma, Anthony Barker, Nicole Barker, and Katie (Brad Knowlton) Hill; and two great-grandchildren, Lucas Hill and Izabella Knowlton. Also surviving is a brother Clayton (Marie) Johnson of Monticello, and a sister Shirley Ross of Buffalo as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of forty-six years Fred.
Betty will be dearly missed by her friends and family.
