GARY L. KOLANDER, 64, of Jackson passed away at his home in Jackson on Sunday, March 21, 2010. Funeral service will be on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jackson with Pastor John Schuetz officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Miller Hillside Cemetery – Jackson. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Jackson and on Thursday – one hour prior to the service at the Church. Memorials preferred to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or Sanford Hospice – Jackson County.
GARY LYNN KOLANDER was born on May 24, 1945 in Jackson, Minnesota, the son of Lester (Butch) and Helen (Dunai) Kolander. He started his education in Middletown Township, Jackson County in District 55 and later completed his high school education in 1963 at Jackson High School. He served in the US Army from 1965 to 1967 doing a tour in Vietnam. He then went to Jackson Area Vocational and Technical Institute, graduating with an AA degree in Architectural Drafting in 1969 before graduating from the Reisch Auctioneering School in Mason City, Iowa in 1970. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Chergosky on November 28, 1970. In 1995, they went their separate ways. Gary was an auctioneer, had owned and ran the Sale Barn in Jackson. He raised, bought and sold horses. He farmed and ranched. He was a full time horseman. Gary passed away at his home on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 25 days.
Gary was baptized at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hunter Township and later confirmed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jackson, where he remained a member. His faith was a very important part of his life. He always had a plan and projects in the works. He always said work is never hard when you loved what you are doing and he always loved what he was doing. He loved going to horse sales.
Gary is survived by his two sons, K.C. Kolander and Trent (Kathy) Kolander, both of Jackson, twin granddaughters, Cailyn and Claire Kolander of Jackson, 1 sister, April (Robert) Nead of Shakopee, Minnesota, 4 brothers, Gene (Sue) Kolander of Okanagon, Washington, Harlow (Carol) Kolander, Rodney (Suzanne) Kolander and Randy (Marsha) Kolander, all of Jackson, Minnesota and numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Cooper.
