VERNON L. BESEKE


VERNON L. BESEKE, 78, of Jackson passed away at the Fairmont Mayo Hospital in Fairmont, Minnesota on Tuesday, February 9, 2010.  Funeral service will be on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Oderman officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Memorial CemeteryJackson.

 

Visitation will be on Thursday, from 4 to 7 PM and on Friday – one hour prior to the service – both at the Church.

 

VERNON LEROY BESEKE was born on April 26, 1931 in Enterprise Township, Jackson County, Minnesota, the son of Ernest and Clara Wilhelmina (Groth) Beseke.  He started his education in District 93 and later graduated from Jackson High School in 1949.  After his education, he farmed with his father.  He was united in marriage to Joyce Elaine Whisney on August 21, 1955 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson.  He then continued to farm on the homeplace.  In 1986, he and Joyce moved to Jackson and left the farming to his son, Gary and his family.  Vernon passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at the Fairmont Hospital at the age of 78 years, 9 months, 14 days.

 

Vernon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alpha, where he had been baptized and confirmed.  He had served on the Church council for many years.  In 1996, they became members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson.  He had served several terms on the Enterprise Township Board.  Farming was Vernon’s life but enjoyed fishing and hunting both in Minnesota and Canada.  Mostly, he enjoyed his family – working on the farm and watching his grandchildren grow up to be well educated and doing well in their lives.  His special joy was his great-grandson, Wyatt.

 

Vernon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce Beseke of Jackson, a daughter, Cheryl (Phillip) Atwell of DeKalb, Illinois, a son, Gary (Lori) Beseke of Alpha, Minnesota, 4 grandchildren, Dustin (Nichole) Beseke and their son, Wyatt of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Christina Flatebo of Pipestone, Minnesota, Shawn Flatebo of Jackson, Minnesota,  and Lucas Beseke and his fiancé, Staci Stueven of Jackson, Minnesota, a brother, Earl (Ruth) Beseke of Colorado Springs, Colorado and many nieces and nephews.

 

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mark Beseke at the age of 12 years, and his wife’s parents, Joseph and Frances Whisney and other relatives.

 

Blessed be the memory of Vernon Leroy Beseke.
