My heart is so heavy with sadness. We have lost a beautiful, wonderful person. Andrea touched so many lives both young and old. I will never forget her enthusiasm and passion for our 4-H youth. Everyone could tell when Andrea was in the crowd at the 4-H horse show. Hootin’ and hollerin’ words of encouragement; way to go, good job, you did it! She knew every child by name and gave each one the same encouragement whether they were a beginner showing their horse for the first time or in the senior class, refined and experienced.
My prayers go out to everyone whose lives were touched by Andrea. May we honor her memory by encouraging others and by sharing a passion for life. I know and believe that Andrea will be hootin’ and hollerin’ for all of us, from heaven above.

Andrea was so fun, interested and interesting, and full of personality. I met her working at MSUSA (her ‘Cities’ time period). We became friends, and I know I can speak for everyone at MSUSA that the most fun times we had and the most laughter we shared, was because of Andrea’s wit and sense of humor. What a positive impact Andrea made on so many people, she brought out the best in everyone. I am so sorry for this tremendous loss.

  12. Carol Scotting says:

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in the sudden loss of an amazing, wonderful person Andrea. The last conversation I had with Andrea was in Sept. in regard to the sudden death of our son-in-law, age 34 due to a heart attack. She said “Yes, life is too short and you just never know – that’s why I am leaving this job and marrying the love of my life.” She was so happy! I will remember Andrea most by her awesome sense of humor and her laughter. We always had a little competition at state fair meetings seeing which one of us knew the trivia. . . she most often beat me. I share in your loss of as she was wonderful friend and co-worker. We shared the same passion: “the love of helping and working with kids.” Losing someone at such a young age is so hard and makes a person question “why?” Dear, Dear Andrea – may you rest in peace and perhaps you and Travis can have a good laugh together and share some songs!

I feel blessed to have known her for the short period of time I did. My heart and prayers go out to her family and friends.

  34. Katie Clarke says:

    To Andrea’s family –
I am very saddened to learn of Andrea’s passing. I, like many others writing today had the pleasure of working with Andrea in Extension during the last four years. She and I were on the state 4-H swine committee together.

As I read others’ comments, and reflect on my memories of Andrea, I believe one word sums up who she was……a “CHAMPION!” No matter what project she was working on, she would “champion” for it. No matter what youth she was helping, she would “champion” them. No matter what cause she believed in, she was its biggest “champion.” She was the “champion” of fun, the “champion” of laughter, and a “champion” of life.

This week, so many family and friends have lost their “champion,” but we know God is gaining a real “champion” up above.

She was always quick to say hi with her big smile. My daughter who is 12 now told me “Mom she was my buddy.” She developed a special relationship with her many years ago when she was in Brown County and saw her most recently at the state fair in August she said. She always remembered her. That is testimony of how wonderful of a person Andrea was. She touched many lives through 4-H. She will be missed by all of us! God saw a beautiful flower in his garden of life and chose the brightest one. She will remain in all our hearts forever.

Her presence was precious. I can only imagine what she brought to those who were close to her. May all who are mourning experience God’s deep blessings of comfort and assurance.

Family & Friends of Andrea ~
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time you are experiencing. As you very well know, Andrea was the best! Every year at different 4-H events, I would look forward to chatting with Andrea. She had a radiance about her that would always make me smile – her smile was always a MILE wide!

I first worked with her back in 2004 at the MN State Fair as a livestock exhibit assistant. She was working with the Swine Committee, and I with the sheep committee. Although we didn’t work directly together, she was one of the first to welcome me & thank me for my work. I’ve always remember those words – and now appreciate them even more. I’ve always admired her different leadership style she used with her 4-H youth.

Most recently I chatted with Andrea before she left her job with Jackson County – and I wished her well. She was so excited to get home and spend time with her husband-to-be. I could tell she was beaming!

I will miss Andrea at 4-H events, especially the smile she carried with her everywhere.

  56. Beth hammond says:

Andrea was my cousin on my mother’s side and I must say that I am still in major shock at her passing. I was not able to make it out to her funeral since I am in the military and stationed in Maryland and my heart hurts so much for not being able to say good-bye to her. I am very happy for the great memories that I got to share with her. We spent almost every Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter with her when I was a kid. I am also very thankful that I had a chance to take her to a 49-ers football game back in 2000 when I was stationed in Monterey, CA. It will be a moment I shall never forget and she will always live on in my heart. I miss her laugh and her sense of humor, along with her caring. Truly the world has lost a great person, but heaven has gained a bubbly, energetic angel. I guess it didn’t have enough of those….

  57. Liz Templin says:

My most vivid memory of Andrea was how she and Kia Harries served as auctioneers at a “Dollar Auction” for Extension’s Epsilon Sigma Phi Scholarship Fund. The only bid allowed is $1 in this timed auction. To bid, people held up a dollar. When the auctioneer called your name, your dollar was collected. When the buzzer went off, the last person whose name was called gets the item. For this to work, obviously the auctioneers needed to have everyone’s name at the tip of their tongue – and she did! There were more than 100 people in the room, including retirees. This was also before staff photos were posted on the internet. How in the world she knew everyone, I have never been able to figure out! AMAZING! Of course the humor that she and Kia added made the auction so memorable. She will live on through our collective memories of this delightful woman.

  58. Donna Geiser says:

Andrea will be missed by many of us in 4-H. Her joy for life and kids was evident in her work. My deepest sympathy to Curt and their families. May God carry you through the days ahead. May you find peace in knowing you will meet again sometime.
