Kenneth M. Nelson


KENNETH M. NELSON, 85, of Milford, Iowa passed away at the Community Memorial Healthcare Center in Hartley on Saturday, December 5, 2009.  Funeral service will be on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Jackson with Pastors Mike Schaffer and David Brown officiating. Military Honors by the Jackson American Legion and VFW Posts. With burial at a later date.

 

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Church.

 

KENNETH MERLE NELSON was born on September 26, 1924 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Louis and Alma (Kurtzer) Nelson.  As a child, they moved to Jackson where Ken graduated from high school in 1943.  After his education, he entered the US Army and served in the European Theater during World War II.  After his service, he worked for family at the Nelson Feed and Produce Company in Jackson.  On September 24, 1961, he was united in marriage to Gladys Johnson at the Grace Methodist Church in Spencer, Iowa.  After marriage, they made their home in Jackson and ran the family business as well as branching out to owning the Flowers Unlimited Floral Shop in Jackson.  In the early 1990’s, they moved to Camdenton, Missouri on the Lake of the Ozarks and later moved to Milford, Iowa.  Ken passed away at the Community Memorial Healthcare Center in Hartley, Iowa on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 9 days.

 

Kenneth was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jackson, where he had been active as an usher and a lay speaker.  He was a member of the VFW and American Legion Posts.

 

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gladys Nelson of Milford, a daughter, Holly (Ryan) Jensen of Superior, Iowa and 3 grandchildren – Shelby, Reed and Britney Jensen.

 

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents.
