PEARL RUTH STEINER was born on March 14, 1912 in Jackson, Minnesota, the daughter of Michael and Louise (Buchsen) Gerlach. Her entire schooling was in Jackson, graduating from high school in 1931. She completed her Normal School training in 1932 and taught in country schools in the Jackson area. On November 29, 1934, she was united in marriage to Raymond (Shorty) Steiner at the Daytons Bluff Methodist Parsonage in St. Paul, MN. The couple was blessed with two children, Duane and Karen. After a number of years as a homemaker, Pearl returned to work, this time at the local Red Owl store. Later she joined the staff at the First National Bank, retiring in 1977. Shorty passed away on January 14, 2001. Pearl lived at the Jackson Pines for three years before becoming a resident at the Jackson Good Samaritan Home. She died peacefully at the Sanford Jackson Medical Center on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the age of 97.
Pearl was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Jackson, where she was baptized, attended Sunday school, and participated in Epworth League. Christ and her church family were the center of her life where she faithfully taught Sunday school and release time, was active in the Women’s Society and formed lifelong friendships.
Pearl loved entertaining her friends in her home, flower gardening, feeding and watching the birds in her back yard. She loved to write and receive letters. In her latter years she finally found time to indulge in her passion for reading, keeping the staff at Good Sam busy finding enough books for her.
Pearl is survived by her son, Duane (Carolyn) Steiner of Orange Park, FL and her daughter, Karen (Fred) Gehrs of Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada, her grandchildren Dawn and Debbie, Paul and Ken, 8 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her granddaughter Lisa, and by all her siblings: Morris, Vera, Emily, Grace, Eva, Bessie, and Vivian.
Pearl will be lovingly remembered by her family and many friends.
