Francis A. Warnke

FRANCIS A. WARNKE, 78, of Jackson passed away at the Royal C. Johnson V.A. Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Wednesday, May 27, 2009.  A memorial service will be on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Soper Park on 5 Island Lake in Emmetsburg, Iowa. 

FRANCIS ANDREW WARNKE was born on February 8, 1931 in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the son of Edwin and Iva (Christensen) Warnke.  He graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1949.  After his education, Frank enlisted in the US Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict.  He was united in marriage to Florence Frohling on June 12, 1951 in Bellville, Illinois.  After his discharge from the Air Force, they settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he had his own business of monument engraving.  He helped with the installation of the 5 memorial walls at the Air Force Academy.  After his retirement, they moved onto Loon Lake in Jackson County, Minnesota in 1998.  He liked the idea of walking out his front door to play golf or walking out his back door to fish.  Francis passed away at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 19 days.


Francis was baptized at the Congregational Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa.  He really enjoyed fishing and golfing.  He and Florence loved to travel on his Honda Gold Wing, traveling all over the country.  He was always helping people with their projects and fixing things.  They became snow birds in 1994 spending their winters in Brownsville, Texas.


Francis is survived by his wife of 57 years, Florence Warnke of Jackson, Minnesota, 3 daughters, Leilani (Dean) Eichman of Lewisville, Minnesota, Lesley (Mike) Mackley of Bennett, Colorado and Luann Farley of Ventura, California, a son Gregory (Charlene) Warnke of Colorado Springs, Colorado, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.


Francis was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Eldon Warnke.
