ARNOLD L. BERTELSEN, 83, of Jackson passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009 at the SanfordHospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.Funeral service will be on Friday, May 29, 2009 at at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Jackson with Pastor John Schuetz officiating.Burial with military honors will be in St. Peter’s LutheranCemetery in Easton, Minnesota at .
Visitation will be from 9 to service time on Friday at the Osterberg Funeral Home.
ARNOLD LEROY BERTELSEN was born on September 3, 1925 in ErwinTownship, Kingsbury County, South Dakota, the son of Peder and Frederikka (Petersen) Bertelsen.As a youth, he attended school in Floodwood, Minnesota.After his education, he entered the US Army-Air Force and served during World War II.He was united in marriage to Helen Hanson on December 30, 1948 in Floodwood.After marriage, they made their home in Floodwood where he had been a dairy farmer and a US Postal clerk until 1968 when they moved to Easton, Minnesota.He owned the Easton Bar and Lounge.Helen passed away in 1973, and then in 1976, he moved onto LeechLake and owned and operated the Point View Resort.In 1987, he retired and in 1998, he moved to Jackson, Minnesota.Arnie passed away at the SanfordHospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Memorial Day, May 25, 2009 at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 22 days.
Arnold had been baptized at TrinityLutheranChurch in Floodwood and had been a member of St. Peter’s LutheranChurch in Easton.He loved to fly.He was an avid sportsman, loved hunting, fishing, playing golf, archery.He had also trained German Shorthairs and enjoyed many outings into the Boundary Waters.He loved playing cards, pool, and horseshoes.Arnie excelled at all he attempted.He was a life member of the NRA and been a member of the American Legion in Easton.Arnie was a man of many talents and was always known for his get it done attitude.
Arnold is survived by his 3 sons, Gerry (Kris) Bertelsen of Jackson, Jim (Robyn) Bertelsen of Ely, Minnesota, and Mike (Diane) of Palmdale, California, a daughter, Mary Ann (Lonnie) Murray of Brainerd, Minnesota,9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, a foster son, Ron Covel of Phoenix, Arizona, 2 sisters, Julia Sounvieri of Floodwood, Minnesota, Margaret Lund of Lake Preston, South Dakota, 2 brothers, Floyd (Anita) Bertelsen of Hoveland, Minnesota and Jens (Tynne) Bertelsen of Cromwell, Minnesota.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, a son, Ronald Bertelsen, sister, Marie Jensen and 2 brothers, Charles (Carl) Bertelsen and Darwin Bertelsen.
