Leroy Fred Huemoeller
Leroy F. Huemoeller, 83, of Jackson, passed away at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on February 9, 2009. There will be a graveside service held on Monday, February 16, 2009 beginning at 3pm at Riverside Cemetery in Jackson with Pastor Les Minter officiating.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2009 from 5-7pm at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Jackson.
Leroy Fred Huemoeller was born on November 1, 1925, the son of Herman and Rose (Smith) Huemoeller. As a child LeRoy attended Jackson Public Schools. After school Leroy helped out on a few farms before enlisting in the US Army in 1944. LeRoy served over in Germany towards the end of the war and was discharged in 1946. On September 28, 1947 he was united in marriage to Edna Shephard in Jackson. After marriage they continued to make their home in Jackson. During their time in Jackson LeRoy and Edna ran a salvage/recycling yard. Edna passed away on February 24, 2007. After Edna’s death Leroy continued to make his home in Jackson until his passing at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on February 9, 2009 at the age of 83 years, three months, and eight days.
Leroy was confirmed into the Lutheran faith in 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alpha. He was a member of the Jackson American Legion and VFW Posts. Leroy really enjoyed bowling. He was a member of bowling leagues in Jackson and his team was Minnesota State League Champions one year.
Leroy is survived by his sister Rosalie Plautze of Spencer, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years Edna, his brothers Edwin, Leslie, Herbert and his sisters Helen Osgerby, Clara Rinderle, and Minnie Bartels.
