Iven Elmer Thoreson


Iven Elmer Thoreson. 93, of Lakefield passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield.  Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2009 at 10:30am at Belmont Lutheran Church in Jackson County with Pastor Eric Hullstrom officiating.  Burial will take place immediately following the service at West Belmont Cemetery.

 There will  be a visitation on Thursday, February 12, 2009 from 5-7pm at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Jackson and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Iven Elmer Thoreson was born on January 24, 1916, on the family farm near Kilen Woods, the son of Ingman and Ella (Hendrickson) Thoreson.  As a child Iven attended Heron Lake Country School.  After school Iven worked the farm with his parents.  On April 20, 1940 he was united in marriage to LaPearl Burmeister.  After marriage they moved to a farm on the shores of Heron Lake.  Then in 1950 Iven and LaPearl bought a farm one mile South of Kilen Woods, where they lived until 2005 when they moved to the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield.  They continued to make their home at Colonial Manor until LaPearl passed away on September 23, 2008.  Iven remained at Colonial Manor until his passing on February 7, 2009 at the age of 93 years and 14 days. Iven was a member of Belmont Lutheran Church in rural Jackson County.  Iven truly enjoyed the outdoors; playing in a horseshoe league as well as playing Dart Ball at the church.  He was a true sportsman, hunting ducks and geese in the fall, ice fishing in the winter and sitting on the lake fishing in the summer months.  During the summer months Iven and his family enjoyed traveling, visiting every state except Florida and Hawaii.  Iven also enjoyed playing pool and singing with his wife LaPearl. Iven is survived by his son Ron (Paulene) Thoreson of Fort Wayne, Indiana; his daughter Karen Steinberg of Trimont, Minnesota; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren. Iven was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 68 years LaPearl, an infant son Donald Rae, two infant grandchildren Dylan Thomas Thoreson and Michelle Yavette Thoreson, a son-in-law Don Steinberg , and his brothers Chester, Ervin, and Maynard. Blessed Be The Memory of Iven Thoreson.
